Yooo hooo! The long awaited blog is finally up! I know u guys must be waiting till the neck grow long long liao.. haha.. right roomie? Actually ive long ago set up this blog back in sg.. but havent post up any post yet.. was planning to blog when im in Shanghai. And who knows the connection in Shanghai is damn slow and so difficult to blog. I can't even view blog normally.. hafta go thru this website called anonymouse.com to view blogs. So to pple who blog frequently like roomie and cenwei.. resize your photos to smaller size so i can see! Else i will only be seeing crosses thru out the whole blog.. Boo..
It's been almost 3 weeks since i left sg on 2nd Jan.. and it feels like months. Ive forgotten most of the things that happened in Beijing liao. Hahah.. maybe my memory is failing. Beijing trip was quite fun.. It was juz like a short orientation experiencing the extreme cold weather and getting used to the culture in China before we set foot in Shanghai. Hmm.. actually Beijing has nth much except for the old historical architects and scenery.. and every building looks the same to me. hahaah! We went to the 5 must-see places like Forbidden City (故宫), Tian Tan, Summer Palace (颐和园), Mings Tomb and nonetheless Great wall! Not forgetting the flag lowering ceremony at Tian'an Men Square as well.
Forbidden City was quite boring.. all the builings are similarly structured and we could only see the insides of the room from the outside via a plastic opening. All the rooms were locked.. damn sian. Other than that.. i cant really recall what i saw over there. hahaha.. Tian Tan is similar to Forbidden City.. Its damn big and has 3 circular shaped like buildings. The past Dowager used to go there to pray to the heaven i think. haha.. Summer Palace is more fun than the previous 2 in the sense that it has a very big frozen lake! It's like a very very big ice skating ring and u could see people walking on it.. damn nice. Summer Palace was freaking big and it took us the whole day to finish recce it.. on the top of the hill there's one Qian Shou Guan Ying temple and the view from there was spectacular.. esp the sunset!
On the second last day of our Beijing trip we went to the Mings Tomb and Great Wall. There's nth much to see at the Mings Tomb except for artefacts.. in fact all that we had seen in the previous days are palaces and artefacts.. quite boring. ahah.. The more happening event was Great Wall! On the way to Great Wall the tour guide was telling us never to give up climbing when we reached there cuz all the past tourists had told him that they wanna give up. So we thought this time die liao.. die die muz climb finish no matter wad, considering the fact that we had insufficient sleep and tired legs from walking for the past few days. We took this Biconvex Pulley up to the 4th level of Great Wall and climbed up to the 8th level which was the peak. Omg the steps were so big and steep la.. we were all shagged out halfway and had to stop and rest for awhile before continuing. ahah.. but it was quite fun and all of us were busy posing and taking pictures on the way up. The view on the peak was really spectacular and I was quite amused that there were actually stalls at the peal selling certificates to tourists certifying their completion of the climb. hahah.. Of cuz i had to do one for keepsake la. But i did on a keychain and it has my name and date engraved on it for only 10 rmb ($2 sgd)!!! Things in China is really cheap as compared to Sg!!
Besides sight seeing, we had great food over there too. Restaurants everyday sia.. We tried the Quan Ju De Beijing Roast Duck and and.. hmm some other chinese restaurants which i dun remember the names. ahah.. oh and we tried those roadside snacks too.. superbly nice esp the grilled octopus stick and bing1 tang2 hu2 lu2! All my money was spent on sight seeing and food.. not much shopping was done though.
Reached Shanghai on the 7th Jan and we havent really toured around Shanghai yet till now. Luckily Chongmeng has his friend, Dan, who had also been in Shanghai for 4 mths for exchange to take us around and show us the places that sell cheap cheap goods and food.
陆家浜(Lu Jia Bang) was the place to make tailor-made shirts and suits at a damn cheap price of 450rmb ($90sgd)!! The guys went to collect their suits yesterday and their maket value seemed to increase by 10 points after wearing their suits. Yup.. so now u know how good their tailor is. haha..
Another shopping paradise is this place called 七浦 (Qi Pu). Its a freaking big street of shopping centres that sell lots and lots of boots, bags and clothes! The prices are as low as $8sgd for one pair of boots and $6sgd for one gai gai bag u see in Bugis street! Clothes and sweaters can be bought at around $7sgd per piece too. And who says only girls are into shopping.. the guys took even longer to get their shopping done! hahaha!
We went to try this restaurant called Black Cafe in Shanghai too. The concept of this restaurant is to dine in total pitch dark, served by blind waiters. Damn cool.. I tried to open my eyes for very long but still can't see a single thing. Usually when u are in a dark room, u can see some things after awhile.. but this is totally pitch dark no matter how hard u try to strain your eyes. All of us have to dine like a blind person.. we could only use our hands to feel and try to eat the whole course without poking our nose or face. haha. The meal was quite ex.. around $30 sgd but it was for the novelty and experience la.. At least now i know how a blind person feels.. its quite sad to see only black colour in your life when u tried so hard to search for a glimpse of light. So... cherish your eyes!!
After the meal we went to 新天地, the night life of Shanghai.. juz like our clarke quay.. but without the river. haha.. It is a very nice place to chill out with nice nice lightings and pubs and buildings.. I can foresee it's gonna be our hang out place soon after a long week of work! hee..
Hmm.. yeah i think thats all for Shanghai for now ba.. Will slowly discover more places to tour for the next 21 weeks! I've uploaded my photos of Beijing and Shanghai to Picasa too.. u guys can view it here! http://picasaweb.google.com/shuwen.jas/BeijingAndShanghaiPhotos
On a side note.. IA had started last mon and is boringggggg!!! I've been doing data entry for the past week la.. Hopefully there'll be more new and interesting stuff to do. Boo.. and the QC lab in Givaudan stinks!! :(
